VHA calls for urgent action on aged care funding

Victoria’s peak body for public health says the extension of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety should not delay Commonwealth Government action on sustainable residential aged care funding.
‘The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety is providing much-needed insight on the issues facing the sector, and we understand that the additional time is needed to ensure the very best outcomes, however, this should not stop any action on ensuring residential aged care is sustainable now,’ VHA CEO Tom Symondson said.
‘Public sector residential aged care facilities, which make up around 11 per cent of all residential aged care in Victoria and provide critical care to some of the most vulnerable senior Victorians, are operating at losses of 11 per cent on average, more than not-for-profit and for-profit providers, and seriously impacting on their ongoing viability.’
