Joint Standing Committee adopts VHA recommendation on NDIS

March 4, 2020

With the sustainability of the NDIS in rural and thin markets a priority for the VHA and members, the VHA is pleased that Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on the NDIS has adopted one of the positions from the VHA’s submission and recommended to the Commonwealth Government that an alternative funding model be trialled in rural Victoria, based on the existing MPS model.

In supporting this recommendation in principle, the Commonwealth noted that there may be opportunities for the National Disability Insurance Agency to consider testing interventions like this as part of its work on thin markets. This is a positive development given both the sustained advocacy the VHA has undertaken on the issue, and the risk to participants in rural areas posed by unsustainable markets under the NDIS.

The government’s response to the JSC’s recommendations across three completed inquiries can be found here.
