COVID-19 Vaccination Champions program

August 25, 2021

The Victorian Department of Health has established a COVID-19 Vaccine – Vaccination Champions program, which aims to increase vaccine confidence, increase uptake of COVID-19 vaccinations and other COVID-safe behaviours, and raise awareness of Victoria’s COVID-19 vaccination program that provides appropriate access for priority populations.

All champions have received training conducted by the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) on how to build confidence in COVID-19 vaccines.

Victoria’s community health services have been leading engagement with our most vulnerable community members during the COVID-19 pandemic. The C-19 network (which comprises five community health services: CoHealth, DPV Health, EACH, IPC Health, and Star Health) recently delivered pop-up clinics to vaccinate people experiencing homeless and disadvantage.

Community health services are also engaged with many of these communities through the High Risk Accommodation Response (HRAR) Program, which delivers outreach health and social care to people living in settings associated with an increased risk of COVID-19 transmission.

The VHA encourages services involved in the HRAR and Vaccine Ambassador Program (VAP) to consider supplementing this work by booking the department’s Vaccine Champions to speak with your communities.

If you are coordinating an event to increase vaccine confidence and would like to engage one or more champions to assist, complete the champions request form and email it to: vaccine.champions@health.vic.gov.au.
