In December 2020, the Victorian Government announced the launch of a community consultation on a proposed duty of candour law and related proposals aimed at further strengthening the culture of health services. The proposed law is the first of its kind in Australia.

Member briefing: Legislation reform to enable health information sharing

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is developing a clinical information sharing (CIS) solution which uses a single digital interface to allow health information from services to be stored and held in a central location by DHHS, before being securely shared with other public hospitals and health services. DHHS held a consultation process in November 2020 on potential legislative reform to enable this process.

Hearings into aged care response to COVID-19

The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety held two hearings between 10-14 August 2020. The first hearing, from 10-13 August, was examining the response to COVID-19 in aged care.
