Mental health forum for hospital members
The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System is a once in a generation opportunity to accelerate improvements in access to mental health services, service navigation and models of care. The Royal Commission has just delivered its interim report and its final report is due by October 2020. The Victorian Government has already committed to implementing all recommendations. In addition, on 31 October, the Productivity Commission published the draft report of its inquiry into mental health. The commission is looking at how governments, employers, professional and community groups in health, education, employment, social services, housing and justice can contribute to improving mental health for people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. The VHA has previously shared a member briefing on this report.
For the outcomes of the Royal Commission to be a success and to ensure we take full advantage of the productivity commission’s inquiry, it is essential that health services be engaged in a process of coming together to identify sector-wide solutions and responses.
The VHA invites its hospital members to attend a forum on Friday 13 December from 11.30am until 2.00pm. The forum, which is co-hosted with Mental Health Victoria and will be facilitated by Ben Fielding, Partner, Life Sciences at Deloitte, will bring health services together to discuss the Royal Commission’s interim report and the Productivity Commission’s draft report, and identify areas of priority on which the sector can work together. With responses on the Productivity Commission’s draft report due no later than 23 January 2020, the session provides the opportunity to gather feedback for a formal response on behalf of the sector.
