Mandatory vaccination directions extended to authorised workers

The COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination Directions have been split into directions for ‘specified facilities’ (including healthcare facilities) and ‘workers’ (covering Authorised Workers).

The COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions have been published following the 1 October announcement that all ‘Authorised Workers’ will require their first COVID-19 vaccine dose by 15 October in order to continue working onsite.
The Directions include a list of workers that have been authorised to work outside their usual place of residence, in line with the Authorised Worker list.
‘Worker’ definitions that may be of interest to VHA members include:
- Care worker
- Community worker
- Emergency service worker
- Social and community service worker
These can be found in Part 3 of the Directions.
These directions impose obligations on employers of specified workers to collect, record and hold vaccination information about the worker. The Directions allow for a transition period from 15 October to 22 October for workers to make a booking and receive their first dose. Workers must be fully vaccinated by 26 November 2021.
The COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Specified Facilities) Directions (No. 6) apply to all workers, students and volunteers employed or contracted to work at a specified healthcare facility. Healthcare facilities include (but are not limited to hospitals, ambulance and patient transport services, community health services, and general practices. Definitions can be found in Part 3 of the Directions.
The directions impose obligations upon operators of specified facilities to collect, record and hold vaccination information of healthcare workers scheduled to work at a healthcare facility on or after 15 October 2021.
