VHA welcomes new Board Directors

Posted 09 October 2017

VHA Chair Gary Thomas today welcomed four new members to the Board of Directors.

Jon Anstey of Castlemaine District Community Health, Margaret Bennett of Northeast Health Wangaratta, Abbas Khambati of Central Gippsland Health Service and Rebecca Lorains of Primary Care Connect were voted onto the VHA Board at last week’s Annual General Meeting.

“I’d like to formally welcome them to our Board. They bring a wide range of experience and expertise and we look forward to continuing our mission to represent our members and the public and community health sector,” Mr Thomas said today.

Mr Thomas paid tribute to outgoing directors, saying they had made an enormous contribution to the VHA, the peak body for Victoria’s public and community health services.

Peter Craighead of Latrobe Regional Hospital, Damian Ferrie CEO of Star Health and John Rundell, an independent Director, will no longer be on the Board.

“On behalf of the VHA I’d like to thank Peter, Damian and John for their service, vision and loyalty.

“Peter had served 10-and-a-half years, which is a significant commitment. His understanding of the operational and governance needs of regional and rural members is greatly appreciated.

“Damian has also served with distinction for three years. His passion for health and knowledge of the sector is a significant attribute we greatly appreciated.

“John’s grasp of finance and business has been a significant asset for the year he has been on the VHA Board.

“Thanks also to the other members who expressed interest in the roles. It shows an engaged and committed membership and a robust process.”

Janette McCabe of Rural Northwest Health, a Board incumbent, was reappointed.
