Ensuring it is a vital part of the community has been central to the success of Kooweerup Regional Health Service, said VHA Chief Executive Tom Symondson.

“Ï am not only impressed by the way they respond so closely to their community’s need, in many cases they actually set the agenda,” said Symondson, who has just returned from a tour of the service, 73 km south-east of Melbourne.

The service uses innovative ozone technology , relying on few chemicals, in its laundry. It also cooks fresh food and ensures all its aged care rooms have garden views.

Its early parenting unit is also doing outstanding work.

“We want to help people before they get to breaking point,” said Chief Executive Terrona Ramsay.
