New Australian Centre of Healthcare Governance brand launched
Posted 04 October 2017
The Australian Centre of Healthcare Governance – which provides clinical and organisational corporate governance services to support the health and community sector – was today relaunched with a new look and remit.
Tom Symondson, CEO of the Victorian Healthcare Association, which owns the not-for-profit governance business, unveiled the new brand at the 2017 Annual Conference Humanity in health.
“The VHA has invested a significant amount of time, money and expertise to revitalise the Australian Centre for Healthcare Governance in response to a very clear message of need from the sector,” Mr Symondson said.
Dr Stephen Duckett’s Targeting Zero report into quality and safety in Victorian hospitals highlighted serious governance shortcomings.
The Australian Centre for Healthcare Governance, which was originally established in 2010, has been revitalised to provide products and services to assist health and community services tailor a governance support program to meet their specific needs.
The VHA has recruited Jo-Anne Moorfoot – who has vast experience in corporate and clinical governance – to lead the operation.
“The Australian Centre of Healthcare Governance will assess and analyse an organisation’s processes against industry governance requirements and best practice standards to identify gaps and make practical recommendations,” Ms Moorfoot said.
“Despite the best of intentions, many health services struggle to develop sound corporate and clinical governance practices. It’s challenging for health services to access the appropriate expertise, objectivity or time to review and implement good governance.
“Good governance is a journey. It requires constant review, adjustment and improvement to keep abreast of industry best practice within the evolving context of healthcare.”
While a fee for service is charged, all revenue is invested into developing products and services for the sector.
