Managing demand: VHA Annual Conference

Posted 27 June 2018

Leading global health expert and Professor of Public Health at University of Melbourne’s School of Population and Global Health, Rob Moodie, will speak at the VHA Annual Conference, 16 and 17 August at the MCG.

At the conference, Rethink, reset, reimagine: Working towards a stronger Victorian health system, Professor Moodie will discuss managing demand by understanding the social determinants of health. As a trained professional in medicine and public health, Professor Moodie worked in refugee health care in the Sudan for Save the Children Fund and Medicins Sans Frontieres, and later for Congress, the Aboriginal community controlled health service in Central Australia.

Professor Moodie was CEO of VicHealth, the world’s first health promotion foundation based on a dedicated tobacco tax. He chaired the National Preventative Health Taskforce, which recommended the introduction of plain packaging. He now chairs the Gavi Vaccine Alliance’s Evaluation Advisory Committee, and advises the World Health Organization in the areas of non-communicable diseases and health promotion.

The two-day conference will include a mix of panel discussions, keynote presentations, and networking opportunities, as well as the chance to hear from Victoria’s major parliamentary parties.

Each session will provide delegates the chance to rethink, reset and reimagine core focus areas outlined in the VHA’s 2018 Victorian election positions. The conference will connect innovative thinking with practical case studies in areas including workforce, infrastructure, funding, digital health and demand management.

The program will also include a networking event on the first evening and a Digital Health Breakfast at the start of the second day.

VHA voting members receive a complimentary conference ticket by using the code RETHINK18 at registration. They can also access a two for one offer for additional registrants when purchasing a ticket. For more information and to register for the conference, click here.
