Education: Understanding dementia

The VHA, together with Dementia Australia is offering a special member-only 10 per cent discount on award-winning dementia education and training, geared towards staff providing support to people living with dementia and their carers.

Understanding Dementia, is just one of the courses being offered and provides an overview of dementia as a major neurocognitive disorder, including signs and symptoms, causes and an understanding of how dementia affects the brain and behaviour.

Participants will gain an enhanced understanding into the nature of dementia, including prevalence, risks, types of dementia and signs of dementia, a person-centred approach to dementia support, resources and services available.

Other courses being offered include:

  • Supporting successful communication
  • Applying a problem solving approach to behaviours
  • Achieving purposeful engagement
  • Enabling EDIE
  • Virtual Dementia Experience.
